Color Recipe of the Week – Olive Jar
This week our ‘Color of the Week’ is a color we mixed from three colors in the line. Incase you didn’t know, our brand colors are named after items found within a home or things that make up a home. Bungalow is a synonym for home, and our brand was built on the notion of creating beautiful things for your home. We are calling this recipe color Olive Jar, as it is that beautiful green seen on Spanish and Italian olive jar pottery. To make the color Olive Jar simply mix: 1 part Iron Gate 1 part Front Lawn 1/2 part Picnic Basket With this recipe, you can make as much as you need with the “part” measurements. So if your “part” was a 1/2 […]
Color of the Week – Tin Can Camper
Welcome to Bungalow 47 Color of the Week! This week we are featuring the color Tin Can Camper in the Bungalow 47 Furniture Paint line, which is an American-made chalk and clay paint. Tin Can Camper is a soft pale gray color. It is perfect for the French or Shabby Chic type styles, as it has a slight femininity to it. It looks great when lightly distressed to reveal a bit of a time worn look or heavily distressed so you can really see the wood tones underneath. Here are a few pictures of furniture our retailers have painted using Tin Can Camper. In one picture it is paired with Nautical Stripe, and the other shows it bold and fun paired with Funky Fringe. Have […]

Welcome to Bungalow 47 Color of the Week! This week we are featuring the color Farmhouse Sink in the Bungalow 47 Furniture Paint, which is an American-made chalk and clay paint. How to Hand Paint a Gingham Design
Everybody loves gingham, whether it be large or small. There’s just something so classic and fresh about those little shaded checks. I was feeling like a needed to add some pizazz to my laundry area, and decided that a little gingham project was just what I needed. We had made this cute and simple gingham tray a few seasons back by using a stencil brush and dry brush technique, but I was looking for something a little bolder. Check out that project here. There was just a small space above my laundry area, but if you look down the hall after entering my house, you can see it. So leaving it plain and boring wasn’t an option. After completing my hand painted gingham wall, […]
Painting Metal Fixtures – A Quick Update
Recently while visiting my daughter and her husband, who are new homeowners, she declared “sometimes this house still doesn’t feel like ours!” They purchased their first home from the original owners of the property. Blessed with ample outdoor space, a large gazebo, an artist’s shed, and gardens galore, the single level ranch needed an update. After some renovation, they have continued working to make it their own. But my daughter was pointing out small details, such as light fixtures that hadn’t yet been changed, that were making her think of the grandmother who had lived there. “You have some B47 paint, right?”, I asked. I mean, she is my kid, so there should be some paint lying around somewhere! “Let’s paint them!” Did you know […]

Creating a Layered Boat Wood Finish
Are you loving the look of old salvage trim, but don’t love the price and availability? When we needed some fun colored trim for a project on a vintage camper, Chantelle decided to make her own! We were perusing ideas on Pinterest and came across this picture: So, we visited the website Sew Homegrown, got inspired, and decided to try the technique using our furniture paint! First, Chantelle gathered the wood she wanted to use for her project. The wood she had was actually old grooved board, but you can start with whatever wood you like, even plain new pine from a big box store! If beginning with raw wood, you may want to paint a base coat for color foundation. Wood Beam, a Bungalow 47 […]

How to Transfer Images to Furniture
Have you ever wondered how all those DIYers are able to transfer printed images onto painted furniture? Well, now we have an easy way to show you, thanks to one of our amazing paint retailers in Missouri. Tristan Taggart is an artist and furniture painter who sells her wares at Blue Moon Boutique Market in Joplin, Missouri. She’s super creative and is a lover of our paint products carried through the Junk Gypsy™ Paint and Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic® Paint brands! Recently she painted this little end table featuring a few transferred images, and we couldn’t wait to show you how it’s done! Here’s a close-up of the top, with the bee image. Tristan tells us, “This little table made me fearless. It had so […]
We’re Painting Fools and Loving It!
There’s a saying that goes “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” We are living proof that this is soooo true, especially since we find ourselves busy all the time! The paint, found in 20 colors under the Bungalow 47™ brand, 18 colors with the Junk Gypsy™ Paint line, and 10 soft colors for Rachel Ashwell and the Shabby Chic® Paint line, is always a great source to transform that flea market find. The Junk Gypsies™ have great style and love bold colors, and Rachel’s line is soft and pastel like her Shabby Chic® world. We love to paint, and lately Chantelle has gotten into spraying it on too. Check out this awesome spray booth her […]

Have you received your issue of Romantic Homes magazine yet this month? If so, check out the feature on “The Romantics” on page 60, featuring designers from around the country sharing a bit of their vision of romantic style. We are honored that Engaged Media chose Chantelle and I to be a part of this feature. Here is what it looks like. Engaged Media also publishes Flea Market Decor, Cottages and Bungalows, along with several special interest magazines. I love the American Farmhouse and Modern titles frequently published as well. A few years back, we produced and photographed another amazing Michigan cottage on the west side of the state that was featured earlier last spring in the February/March 2016 issue of Cottages and Bungalows in […]
A Bungalow 47 Style Christmas
At Bungalow 47, our style started out as a mix of Chantelle and I and what we loved. We each had a distinct style, different from each other, but there was always a common ground where we crossed over and loved the same stuff. Of course that always includes vintage! At Christmas time, it’s always fun to see how everyone brings their style to Christmas decor, so we thought we’d share a little peek into ours. Chantelle has a thing for kitschy vintage Santas and decor, including large plastic ones! This little corner shows her Christmas style perfectly. And of course you’ve got to have painted vintage furniture! A view of her pretty dining room, featuring vintage beadboard and salvage. She’s all about the plastic […]
Decoupage Using Bungalow 47™ Matte Finish
Are you in the mode of trying to make crafting for the holidays fun and easy? We are too! This week we made a cute Christmas wreath from wood scraps, painted it using our American-made Bungalow 47™ Furniture Paint (in some funky colors for Christmas) and added an easy decoupage technique using our Matte Finish. Here’s what we did: Once we chose our fun non-traditional Christmas colors for painting the wood, we gathered up Matte Finish, a sanding block, brush, and some scrapbook paper in text weight. Stay away from any paper that is too heavy and thick, like cardstock. Decoupage works easier when your paper is easily pliable. Start by applying a generous coat of Matte Finish on the surface that you will be […]
Thanksgiving Traditions and Memories
Thanksgiving is here and since we’re all bloated from eating too much, we thought we’d share some memories and traditions that Chantelle and I each have with our families. Chantelle is lucky enough to have her whole family all living in the same county. This includes her kids, along with her parents, and siblings and their families. If the weather is nice for Thanksgiving in Michigan (and this is a crap shoot for any given year) they pull out the Road Kill Grill, and the airstream, and set up a party in her parents backyard. d If the kids are feeling picky, and aren’t in the mood for turkey, then hot dogs can easily be grilled up! It never matters what they are eating, they […]
