Oh Hey! I’m Jill!

I’m so happy you’re here!

Creating a home is a process and it’s something best done over time. Home should be a haven where we can craft the life we want. I love homes with lots of books, comfy spots to snuggle, organized spaces to work and entertain, beautiful treasures picked up along the way, and mementos from a life well lived. But the thing I love most? Home is where your life happens. Let’s make it fabulous, shall we?

Hello friends! I am back after a bit of a social m Hello friends! I am back after a bit of a social media break. I just needed a bit of time to process losing my mom, prepping for all things holidays, and restructuring some other things at work. But I wanted to jump on and share some Christmas decor I have been finishing up! This week I am a part of some blog hops and roundups with some amazing friends and bloggers! I can't wait to show you some of their stuff. I know you will love it.I always love to see how people decorate for the holidays. I try not to look at pictures of what I did last year, so everything usually ends up different around here. Do you decorate the same, year after year? Or do you like to switch things up each season?
I had the privilege of visiting the designer @jean I had the privilege of visiting the designer @jeanstofferdesign house The Madison, in Grand Rapids this past weekend.Every year she does a holiday tour of her historic home that she restored, and it is absolutely stunning! I was drooling the whole time.If you haven't seen her show The Established Home on the Magnolia Network, you should check it out.She has fabulous style and the home was so inspiring to meander through. I just love historical homes, and Jean was masterful with her renovation of this beautiful home. Every detail was perfection. If you'd like to see more, I posted more information and pictures on the blog. Link is in the profile.I will definitely need to make this an annual tradition. I feel so inspired for the holidays. Now, if I can only finish my decorating, that'd be swell.Hope y'all are having a good week. Things have been interesting here.
Because I am who I am because of her, I thought I Because I am who I am because of her, I thought I would share this here. One week ago my beautiful mother passed away at the age of 89. Last year, she was diagnosed with colon cancer and they estimated 3 months more for her to live at that point (she was suffering from Alzheimer's as well). In classic style, my mother defied the odds and surprised us all. She lived long enough to see her 70th anniversary being married to my dad (in July), gave us time to grieve, and ponder what life would be like being without her. So far, I'm not a fan of that, and it doesn't seem quite real yet. She has always been such a force, but I am relieved that she is no longer in pain. Her spirit lives on in her family, as there are many of us who have inherited various qualities that she possessed and that made her a most extraordinary woman. Never a dull moment, I can tell you that! I am proud to be her daughter, her baby, and I will miss her each day until it is my turn to go and we are reunited. Love you Mom.
NOTHING IS PERFECT (ALERT!!❎) I was talking to a NOTHING IS PERFECT (ALERT!!❎)
I was talking to an old friend a few months ago (she's not old, I've just known her a long time) and she mentioned that she was seeing the pictures that I post for my business. We talked for a few minutes, chit-chatting about how things were, and she said something that left me 😲😲😲I think she mentioned how pretty she thought the photos were, then admitted that she didn't read the blog "cause it made her feel bad" because her house isn't perfect. 😳Truth bomb, neither is mine. Most peoples aren't, and that is precisely who I write for. It's not meant to be, we live there right? But the point is to be comfortable there, and to create a space where you live your life with those you love. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it should be YOU!And that is what I write about. I posted these pictures on the blog this week, and then noticed there were dog toys on the floor that made it into the picture😂yea, dogs live here and they leave their crap everywhere. And so does my husband, and so do I.Things aren't perfect. It's nice when they are clean (not always the case here) but it's best when they are comfortable. And when they tell your story and hold memories for you and your loved ones.Home is the scrapbook of your life. Look around and see all the memories around you. That is when a home is perfect. To me, at least. What makes a home perfect to you? What is perfect about your home?
So I was trying out some Halloween decor I had to So I was trying out some Halloween decor I had to see if I would want to decorate a bit next week when October rolls around. This was part of my "use what you have" decor rant on the blog.My friend took one look at this picture and said, "who has eyeballs lying around?!!""What?" Like you don't have extra eyeballs? 😂Okay, to be fair, I had these from literal eons ago and just found them a few weeks ago when I was digging around in my party closet for something. See, sometimes it is good to hoard a few things. (Not that I'm a hoarder 😂😂😂)As soon as I typed that I heard my daughters voice in my head ("Not that you're NOT a hoarder") but it does occasionally pay to keep a few things. You never know when you will need a bag of eyeballs. They probably are from my parenting days...eyes in the back of my head and all...we could all use a few of those. What are your plans for Halloween decorating? Anyone using eyeballs?
I'm not a big seasonal decorator, except for Chris I'm not a big seasonal decorator, except for Christmas of course, but I do love when the seasons change in Michigan. Especially from summer to fall. The way I choose to get myself in the mood for fall rarely involves pumpkins. I'm not a pumpkin hater by any means, probably just too lazy to go to the farm stand. But this is the time that I will go picking through the fields around my business warehouse, and styling at home with all my vintage finds that make it seem like autumn. This involves a lot of dried foliage, and items that create a mood and a bit of a comfy feel. Anyone else spend more time on the couch in the fall? Or is that just me?If you're not into the pumpkin thing, you might want to check out the blog for the latest post about using what you have to decorate for fall. Hopefully you'll find a few ideas. So who decorates for fall?🙋Do you do the pumpkin thing or are you a non-traditionalist like me? I'd love to know that I'm not alone. Tell me in the comments.
Alabaster lamps...it's not a problem, right?Mayb Alabaster lamps...it's not a problem, right?Maybe an obsession would be accurate. But I love them so much. The problem started with the lamp in the second picture. This was my parents lamp. I stared at it my whole childhood and waited patiently for the time that my parents would gift it to me. My mom said, "Put your name on the bottom of it so when we're old, we will remember who wants it."I may have told all my siblings I would arm wrestle for it, if needed. Good thing they love me and graciously allowed it to be mine. But I waited a long time to get it. Meanwhile, I collected others. Then more and more, but it's not a problem right? I have many more than pictured here😂just trying to keep my obsessions more quiet. But we're friends, right? So you won't tell anyone if I need a 7-step recovery program. Cause I don't want one. Unless I get to talk about alabaster lamps some more. Then I'll go.What are you obsessed with?#alabasterlamps #vintagealabasterlamp #usefulcollections
Look what I found at the flea market a few weeks a Look what I found at the flea market a few weeks ago! Isn’t the color amazing?!💙 I’m trying to decide how I will use it? 🤔 It could become a tree skirt this holiday like the one I did last year? Or maybe add the ruffles to the edge of a tablecloth? Maybe I’ll just wear it!😂 What do you think?

Have you ever looked at a picture of something onl Have you ever looked at a picture of something online and thought "wow, that sucks"? Like this room, it's weird, not everyone's cup of tea.But guess what? This is my home office, and it's MY cup of tea. Cause I like weird stuff, and vintage. And the rest of my house is normal, but in here I can be myself and do what I want.So it's colorful, and chaotic, with a few spots of fun (maybe like me?) and that is the point.Your home can be anything you want it to be. You can make it weird, or full of color, or calm and soothing. You can mix and match, or have everything one color. But it should be YOU (and whoever you live with). And it doesn't matter if anyone else thinks it sucks. It makes me howl😂when I'm reading comments on social and someone says something like 'yuck! why would you paint a room that color?' And I'm all, 'dude, you don't live there, they do."So I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you want to paint your bedroom black, or purple, or peach, or whatever, then do it! Don't be swayed by the haters. As long as YOU love it, that's what matters. And it's just paint, you can always paint it again! If you see something you love while you're shopping, and whoever you are with is like "meh", still buy it. Surround yourself with stuff YOU LOVE!Just don't settle. Settling sucks. Make a plan, save your pennies if you need to, make the change, and live with what you love!#unapologeticdesign #makeityou #personalstyledecorating
Hello friends! I haven't been on social much this Hello friends! I haven't been on social much this summer, as there has been a ton going on. But I wanted to jump on and say HI and introduce myself a bit.I'm Jill and I love avocado.I'm a home design enthusiast who is obsessed with all things vintage.I'm a recovering shoe-aholic who would now like to buy nothing but plants.I love tacos, hydrangeas, my 10 adorable grand babies, reading, and trying new things. I've been married 40 years to the love of my life, and he still makes me laugh (and roll my eyes). When I'm not picking through an estate sale or DIYing, I'm usually traveling, playing word games on my phone (I like to multitask) or thinking about food.I'm an introverted-extrovert, organized hoarder of good stuff, and meme sender.I hope you'll stay awhile so we can get to know each other. I truly believe that your home should be a reflection of YOU and tell a bit about your life's journey. I love things, as they have meaning and deeper connections to people and memories we love.Tell me in the comments about one thing you have in your home that reveals a bit about who you are. Let's be friends!💙#livingwithvintage #personalstyledecorating #bungalow47
