Simple Wood Charger + Bungalow 47™ Furniture Paint: Part One
The holidays are coming, and we were thinking about friends, dinners, and tablescapes. Chantelle and I both have wood tables, as most people do, and we really wanted to make a quick project that would protect our tables, but still show their wooden beauty. Here’s a picture of Chantelle’s dining room:
Here’s mine:
We have different styles that have a common thread, so we decided that a simple wood charger would work in whatever style or capacity it was to be used. We started, believe it or not, with a one by four pine board from Home Depot.
This is a simple pine board from Home Depot that is 12″ wide (actual dimension is approximately 11-1/4″ wide). A four-foot board will make four chargers and runs about $7.50 for the board with a per wood piece of about $2 each. If you don’t have a way to cut it at home, Home Depot will cut it for you for free! We cut it into a perfect square. Here are the tools we gathered. In this part one, we will be sharing the instructions for a simple black charger.
Begin by softening the edges of your board by sanding with a flexible sanding block.
Next, this one will be painted using Lamp Post, our true black in the Bungalow 47™ Furniture Paint color palette.
Allow to dry between coats. This one got two.
Next, since these chargers will be used around food, we want them protected. Our Bungalow 47™ Matte Finish resists water and chemicals and is the perfect protection for a project like this.
Using a terrycloth staining pad, quickly turn the can upside down onto the pad to apply a bit of finish. Wipe onto the surface, drying between coats. Two coats will protect great!
These simple handles were purchased at Home Depot in the gate hardware section. We chose the type of handle that has a hole to attach directly with a screw to the front of a surface. The pulls were about $2.30 each.
A quick measurement found our center and we simply attached it with the screws provided.
Ready to see how it looks?
The wood charger will help protect a hot plate from a wood table, and gives an added dimension to a tablescape.
The handles on the charger will make it quick and easy to stack dishes and haul them away when it’s time to clean up.
This is such a simple and easy project to add a little extra style when setting the table.
The charger also makes a great simple tray or surface variety when displaying food at a buffet.
Stay tuned for part two of this project coming on Monday, which will show you a vintage version of this sleek, simple wooden charger. What color Bungalow 47™ Furniture Paint will you use to make some for your holiday table?
