Playroom IKEA Hack

Hello friends! I’m Lizzy. Daughter of Jill, mother of two, and amateur DIY-er. I wanted to share with you all an amazing bookshelf IKEA hack I made for my daughter’s playroom.

This is a great project if you only have a little bit of paint left and want a quick shelf upgrade. I grabbed a couple of $ spice racks from IKEA, my Bungalow 47 paint, and set to work!

This hack literally took maybe 20 minutes and I painted them INSIDE the house while my child was awake – if you have a toddler you know this is basic sorcery at work.

From Rack to Bookshelf

Before assembling the spice racks I painted each set on a piece of old cardboard using an angled brush- they dried super fast and the paint has no odor so it was the perfect indoor winter activity to upgrade our playroom. Then I assembled the racks, hung them up, and added books (color coded, obvi!).

How cute are these colors? I used Mint Enamelware, Terracotta Tile, and Swimming Pool.

All it took was a little bit of paint to give these racks a complete 180. How do you add color to your house? I’d love to see! Tag us on instagram @bungalow47 or with the hashtag #bungalow47 to show us your creations.
