My 2024 Christmas Home Tour Full of Things We Love

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. I’m excited to share with you my 2024 Christmas home tour full of things we love.

Each year I tweak the Christmas decorating a little. This year was no exception. Let me show you around a bit.

Setting the Christmas stage in the entry

The holidays are a time for family and friends. Usually the first room they will see when visiting will be the entry. So it’s nice to set the stage and make it special.

Our staircase has a very short railing, but it’s enough to show off a bit of my vintage stocking stretcher collection. This is also a good spot for a bit of ribbon.

The multi-layered ribbons and bow were a new addition this year. I wanted to start with a Christmas looking plaid that had holiday colors as well as blue. The entry is primarily blue and white.

Actually, in this house, much of our decor is blue and white. Around the holidays I definitely add some classic red and green in parts of the house. However, the entry sets the stage for the color palette you will see, along with hinting at lots more vintage to come.

Christmas decor in the kitchen

All the yummy things of the season come from the kitchen. Not only will I be hosting my Annual Cookie Exchange, but lots of our favorite party foods will be made in the kitchen. So of course, I love to have holiday decor scattered throughout.

The kitchen, after all, is the heart of the home. Isn’t it the room where most people spend a huge chunk of time? Making it festive for the season can be fun. Just remember to make sure you keep any decorations away from becoming a fire hazard.

And of course, you always need a bit of mistletoe to keep things going. My littles call it ‘the kissing plant’.

The kitchen nook is dressed for Christmas

In my kitchen nook, I have lots of shelves that hold most of my ironstone collection, along with milk glass and various platters. With all of the white dishes, I add in red and green Christmas decor, since the kitchen faces the family room with all the traditional holiday decorating.

The chairs at the table get a little detail with a large bow and Christmas tree. We’ve started out the season doing a few fun crafts with my littles in this space. My favorite were these edible snow globes we made from lots of treats and disposable cupcake holders. Aren’t they so cute?

Decorations in the kitchen workspace

My main workspace in the kitchen where the sink is does not face a window. It is an island that faces our family room, where a wall was removed. So this space is the main separator from the neighboring room.

I hung two vintage honeycomb, large ornament balls between the pendants. The counter is accessorized with a tree in a vintage tin, that displays many old vintage ornaments. Because I see this space a lot during the day, I placed these vintage elf ornaments right where I can see them.

These elf ornaments were found in my mother’s Christmas things, when we cleaned out my parents home. I remember them from my childhood, and now, I am so happy to see them displayed every day. They bring back very tender memories I have of Christmases with my family growing up.

I have a little shelf directly above my range, along with one on the hood. I try to be careful to place things there, as there can be residue from cooking. So I try to choose things that can ultimately be washed if needed.

Things are a bit safer on the hood shelf, so there is a Santa perched up there to look out at all the Christmas decor in the room.

The family room full of Christmas collections

The family room that is open to the kitchen is a place for conversation and relaxation. There is no television in this room. It also has the wood burning fireplace, which is the only fireplace in the house we currently use, even though there are three.

This room has all the classic red and green decor. The Christmas tree in this room is a wonderful tree I got from Kings of Christmas. It holds all the legacy ornaments, which are all the weird ones my children made for us when they were little.

This room has all my Christmas maximalist decor and I love it. It’s overcrowded and comfortable, and each year I look forward to changing things up and making it meaningful for us in the season.

Decorating with blue and white at Christmas

Our main living area has a dining area and sitting area where we spend many nights watching television. This room is primarily blue and white, so for the holiday season I use blue, white, and silver to decorate with natural elements.

Some years I put up a tall, thin flocked tree full of sparkling ornaments, but this year I did not. I always like to switch up my Christmas decor, and try not to look at pictures of past years so I am not doing the same thing.

Decorating at Christmas with the blue and white, I use that theme in the entry room of the house. I am not a fan of lots of red, so limiting that main color scheme to the family room and kitchen works for me.

Small touches throughout the house

I like to add a bit of Christmas decorating in a few other rooms in the house, even though they may be minimal touches.

Small trees show up in the primary bedroom, my studio, the half bath, and the mudroom. It’s fun to add a touch of Christmas around without getting too crazy, like I do in the family room. Little touches can add something special for the holiday season, and don’t take much thought or time to execute.

Each year is different as the collections grow

I have many things I collect through the year and specifically for Christmas. Like my milk glass collection that is used all the time, along with my vintage toy trucks that are reserved only for the holidays.

Through the year as I collect vintage, I try to expand my collection so the items end up being used differently each time. Specifically for the holidays, I collect:

  • toy trucks and cars
  • vintage pine cone ornaments
  • vintage clip-on bird ornaments
  • weird Santas
  • vintage Santa mugs
  • mini nativity sets (I have no more room for large ones)
  • wood and metal sock stretchers

However, I do like to use many of my vintage finds that I have throughout the house. Incorporating many of these really brings my personal style into my Christmas decor.

Using all my vintage finds for holiday decorating

Not gonna lie, I am a collector of many things. I try to buy things that I can use, rather than just look at. Although, I do love me some vintage art, so this becomes more of a need than a want! I do love to admire it.

basket with greenery

When it’s time to decorate for the holidays, I often utilize these collections:

  • vintage quilts
  • vintage wood ice cream maker buckets
  • milk glass and ironstone
  • baskets
  • plaid wool blankets
  • old metal tins

I feel like, if I have all this stuff, I might as well use it. Don’t you love to see your stuff used in different ways? Baskets are always great to use, but look especially cute at Christmas. These are the things that make me ridiculously happy!

I also love this little advent calendar I made from an old sectioned Coca-Cola crate, mini Mason jars, and ready-made stickers! The littles love to come over and open the jar to see which treat they will find!

Real and faux greenery

Are you a stickler for having real or fake greenery in your home? I swing both ways. Sometimes I love a real tree, and other times, I can skip the big mess. This year I added a bit of vintage tinsel to a little fake tree, so something tells me, I still will have a mess!

This year, Thanksgiving was super late, so I decorated with all the fake stuff. I put my trees up early and so I knew I would have to skip getting a real tree this year. Even though I love the smell, I can use scent sticks and candles to fake it.

Using faux greens inside also allows me to get a bit of a different look to what I might be able to find growing in my immediate area. I use a variety of greens that are tucked around a few different places.

Thinking about Christmas through the year

I have been trying to purchase small Christmas items each time we travel to a foreign country. This spring, we went to Sweden where I bought a mini nativity and a Santa figure that is wearing the local fur that they are known for.

I also purchased a few vintage tins while there, one that ended up with a Christmas tree in it. Since I don’t want to forget where each item was found, I try to remember to write on the bottom of the item the year and place that I purchased it.

I hope that you are having a wonderful holiday season. If you’d like to get inspired about more stuff for your home, let’s hang out more. Follow along on these platforms. Tell me in the comments, what are your favorite items to decorate with at Christmas time?
