Memories in Round Top, Texas
As Chantelle and I prepare to head to Antiques Week in Round Top, Texas, I can’t help but ponder the last time we were there. Before I do that, let me back up a bit. Once you find out about Round Top and know Antiques Week, it draws you in like a moth to a flame. It’s the type of show that draws people from all over the world, where a little tiny Texas town of 90 swells to tens of thousands over a weeks time. There are fields and fields of treasures, miles of junk to be found, amazing inspiration and glorious antiques found at Marburger. It’s enough to make you want to leave your life and hang out there, leaving reality behind. Chantelle […]
3 Things That Make a House a Home
It’s a funny thing, being an empty nester. The house is quiet, there’s no sporting events to go to constantly, less people visit, the fridge has way less food, and (the saddest part) there are way less happy distractions from what you are doing. However, I have to admit, I pictured my life less chaotic than it currently is. With a growing business, marrying off the youngest child, moving to a smaller house and trying to live through a renovation, I have needed to focus on life’s essentials. When living amongst boxes with all of our “stuff” packed away, I don’t have any of that excess around to entertain me, so it was important to set up our current living space with what’s important. My […]
The Prairie in Round Top, Texas
Since it is the week of fun in Round Top, Texas right now, I thought I would share our memories from our trip in January. The highlight of our journey was staying at Rachel Ashwell’s Prairie, an amazing bed and breakfast in Round Top. As you drive out into what seems to be the middle of nowhere, you come upon a dirt road with an American flag that beckons you down a path to a cluster of the cutest little buildings ever. We stayed in a smaller cottage next to the main house where our associates were staying. There are wonderful patios for conversation all over the property and wide open spaces to enjoy the true Texas prairie. We woke early in the mornings to […]
Guest Room Makeover at Chantelle’s House
Our last two daughters moved out this past year making us official empty nesters. While I love all of my girls to pieces and it was hard to see them go, it is nice having the house to ourselves again. Another perk is being able to transform their rooms in our Bungalow 47 style. Yes!! The girls old rooms are your average size bedrooms so it’s easy to paint and revamp things without a major overhaul. I’m turning each one into a fun guest room and keeping them “at the ready” in case someone needs a room for a night… or two. First, I put a list together of what each room needed: Queen size bed Bedding A couple of night stands Small dresser […]
Bringing Travel Inspiration to Your Home
I live in a ‘house of travel’. What I mean by that is, seriously, we are always talking about travel. My hubby travels excessively for his job, we travel for pleasure and to see our kids who are spread out all over the US and Chantelle and I get to travel occasionally for business. Somehow I am always in a conversation about flights, connections, rentals cars, hotels, etc. It’s ridiculous, I’m not gonna lie, but there are perks of travel. And I’m not just talking the ‘first class’ kind! Two benefits of traveling are 1) you get to be someplace else where there are new things to see, different styles to observe, and inspiration to soak up. And 2) you get to come home after […]
