Choosing the Right Paint Color For Kitchen Cabinets

Don’t you love a good redo? Now that you’ve made the decision that YES YOU CAN paint your kitchen cabinets, the obsessing can begin on which color to choose. Sometimes the choice is easy, like I have been consistent about white kitchens for the last 30 years. But what if you’re up for something new? Or you just aren’t confident about color? Let’s see if we can get there together. First, let’s talk about trends. If you have eyeballs, and have looked at Pinterest lately (or any decorating magazine for that matter) you’ll see that the hot color of the moment for cabinets is navy blue and a variety of shades of gray. What about two-tone? Speaking of trends, there is currently a big one […]

Faux Vintage Paper Mache Pumpkins

A few years back, we were feeling the pumpkin love and made cement pumpkins in the fall. This year, we decided to go from plastic to fantastic! Just doing our part to making plastic pumpkins great again! We picked up a couple of dollar store pumpkins (one black and one orange) then got to work. The inspiration for painting them came from the old vintage paper mâché pumpkins from Halloween’s past (those things are scary lookin’). First, we cut the face out of the plastic pumpkin.  We bought a black pumpkin thinking we could cut the face out so we could put a battery operated candle inside and thought the black background would be nice for that. Cutting the thin plastic wasn’t as easy as we’d hoped but […]

Color of the Week – Tin Can Camper

Welcome to Bungalow 47 Color of the Week! This week we are featuring the color Tin Can Camper in the Bungalow 47 Furniture Paint line, which is an American-made chalk and clay paint. Tin Can Camper is a soft pale gray color. It is perfect for the French or Shabby Chic type styles, as it has a slight femininity to it. It looks great when lightly distressed to reveal a bit of a time worn look or heavily distressed so you can really see the wood tones underneath.  Here are a few pictures of furniture our retailers have painted using Tin Can Camper. In one picture it is paired with Nautical Stripe, and the other shows it bold and fun paired with Funky Fringe. Have […]

Painting Glass Mason Jars

Painting Mason jars is a great way to get a custom look for whatever glass jar project your heart desires. They make great inexpensive centerpieces, too. Recently, Chantelle’s parents celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, and the family was planning a little surprise shindig for this golden festivity. It was time to get crafting! Here are the supplies you need: clean Mason jars* Bungalow 47™ Furniture Paint (we used Clawfoot Tub) gold glitter white glue painter’s tape sanding block brush buffing cloth *New glass jars are not necessary for your project; just make sure they are clean and free from any oily residue, especially old adhesives from labels. Paint the exterior of the jar as desired. Since these would become centerpieces with cut flowers, the jars […]

Little Tin Can Camper – Part 2

There’s something a bit magical about Michigan in the fall. The leaves change, the air gets crisp, and it’s a wonderful time to enjoy the great outdoors! Especially if you have an adorable little tin can camper, like Chantelle. If you’ve been following us for awhile, you may have seen the part one post for the re-do on this little vintage camper. You can check that out here. Can you even handle how cute this is? Wait until you see the inside! The camper is a 1961 vintage fan camper. Here’s a peek of how it looked before it was transformed by Chantelle’s handy husband. Here’s a few ‘during’ shots, and it’s already looking better. Chantelle painted the interior using Junk Gypsy™ Paint and went […]

10 Things Every Guest Room Should Have

Sometimes life gives you little surprises.  This winter/early spring we are expecting our first two grandchildren, both granddaughters! The first decided to surprise her parents 3 weeks early!  So what was originally planned as a weekend away out west, took me on a little journey for two weeks to see our beautiful granddaughter and help her parents decorate their new house they had just moved into two days before we got there.  My plan was to actually go there to stare at and hold the baby for 10 days straight.  My son had another plan for me.  After several gallons of paint, too many trips to Home Depot and major muscle aches on my old body, their kitchen was transformed! At the end of each […]
