Memories in Round Top, Texas

As Chantelle and I prepare to head to Antiques Week in Round Top, Texas, I can’t help but ponder the last time we were there.  We have made many memories in Round Top, Texas. Before I do that, let me back up a bit.

Round Top Antiques Week

Once you find out about Round Top and know Antiques Week, it draws you in like a moth to a flame.  It’s the type of show that draws people from all over the world, where a little tiny Texas town of 90 swells to tens of thousands over a weeks time.  There are fields and fields of treasures, miles of junk to be found, amazing inspiration and glorious antiques found at Marburger.  It’s enough to make you want to leave your life and hang out there, leaving reality behind.

Chantelle has been a hardcore fan for years, and I made it my mission to get there after Rachel Ashwell bought a bed and breakfast there and turned it into shabby chic heaven.  We first visited there together in January 2013 and stayed at The Prairie.  Over the last few years, we continued to get back there either to visit Antiques Week or spend a weekend at our favorite bed and breakfast.

A Wedding at The Prairie

Last summer brought us back there for a special occasion.  My youngest daughter was getting married and we couldn’t find an available barn in Michigan to have her dream wedding, and then I showed her pictures of The Prairie.  We immediately made plans for a destination wedding (what, isn’t Round Top one of those popular wedding destination spots?) and Bungalow 47 made plans to style the perfect little shabby chic wedding.

There were so many beautiful little spots to take photos, and looking back through them, there seems to be sooooo many kissing pictures!  Isn’t love adorable?

Of course the wedding date was in June, and there were questions that arose, like could we handle the heat that was inevitable?  A few of us melted there, but the bride looked fresh in each shot.  It must have been the prairie magic!

Shabby Chic Perfection

Family and friends from around the country joined us on this little stretch of heaven.  The heat wasn’t too bad and the rain stayed away most of the day so we could enjoy all the outdoor wonder.

The barn was an idyllic spot for the party that would ensue.  What more could you want when there’s a white barn with strung lights outside?

We decorated in a casual, pretty style fitting of the Prairie.  Crystal chandeliers and pastel linens set the right mood.

It was hard not to be giddy most of the day!

A few tears were shed, especially when baby girl took the floor with her daddy!  That always gets me.

We had that barn rocking most of the night!  I’m surprised I didn’t pass out (well, almost)!

Sorry, I had to just show this cuteness.  Check out the cow shoes!  I mean really, who doesn’t need a pair of those?  Why don’t they come in my size?

The best memory is now we have this precious man in our family forever!  When baby girl is happy, mama bear is happier!

Needless to say, I’m anxious to get back there and soak up all the memories.  I have a feeling this trip will cost me less than the last one!  Well, here’s hoping!

Be happy, Jill

  1. Bungalow 47 says:

Barbara, Antiques Week is held twice a year (last week in March and into April and then again at the end of September). It is a great place to find all kinds of treasures and definitely something you should put on your bucket list if you are a junker!

  2. Beautiful memories. But I’m in California and have always heard about Round Top. Since it was advised in Country Living. Now my husband saw Chip & Joanna Gaines go there and I think it peaked his interest. Is it just once a year or once a month thing? I’d love to make a trip of it.
