Decoupage Using Bungalow 47™ Matte Finish

Are you in the mode of crafting for the holidays? We are too! This week we made a cute Christmas wreath from wood scraps, painted it using our American-made Bungalow 47™ Furniture Paint (in some funky colors for Christmas) and added an easy decoupage technique using our Matte Finish. We’d love to show you how you can decoupage using Bungalow 47 Matte Finish

How to Decoupage With Matte Finish

Once we chose our fun non-traditional Christmas colors for painting the wood, we gathered up Matte Finish, a sanding block, brush, and some scrapbook paper in text weight. Stay away from any paper that is too heavy and thick, like cardstock. Decoupage works easier when your paper is easily pliable.

Start by applying a generous coat of Matte Finish on the surface that you will be covering. In our project, we put it directly onto the wood block.

Next, place your paper directly onto the wet Matte Finish. You can cut your paper the same shape as your wood piece, or it can extend over the edges and be sanded off. Either way, it’s a preference thing of how your edges will look. If you like the look of distressing, sanding them off is the easier way to go.

Then add a generous coat of Bungalow 47™ Matte Finish over the top of your paper.  The finish goes on milky, but dries clear. Smooth out any obvious bubbles if you have them, just use your finger or a rubber spatula softly.

After the finish has dried, go back and sand the edges off, if that was the look you chose.

Painting the Project

Our wood blocks got painted using the color Swimming Pool from our Bungalow 47™ Furniture Paint, which is a chalk and clay based paint. We were going for an untraditional Christmas palette, and creating a project from scraps from other projects. Sometimes you really can make something from nothing!
