CeCe Caldwell’s Paints Makeover #9

Cottonwood Sienna -

Cottonwood Sienna

Sometimes I have a hard time trying new things.  For instance, I feel pizza is served best with just pepperoni and I can count the number of vegetables I like on one hand so I really had to stretch myself on this one. When it comes to grabbing paint from our CeCe Caldwell’s Paints line, I tend to gravitate to the brighter bolder colors but I’ve had this little baby staring me in the face for a while saying,”give me a chance”.

This week's victim - Before

I’ve also had this side table floating around the back room at Bungalow 47 for months so I figured they were made for each other.

Destin Gulf Green as a base coat

After giving this side table a good cleaning, I applied a coat of Destin Gulf Green for my fun color to reveal while distressing the Cottonwood Sienna.  I also put a layer of wax on the Destin Gulf Green after it was dry so that when I distressed through the Cottonwood Sienna the Destin Gulf Green wouldn’t sand off with it.

See how having the base coat waxed first helped leave that color on the piece when distressing through the top coat?  You wouldn’t need to wax the whole thing when you wax your base coat but if you wax where you know you are going to sand, it will help quite a bit.

A new favorite! - After

I was pleasantly surprised by how this color turned out.  It’s really grabbed me!!  I’m so glad I tried it!!  I’m still only eating pizza with just pepperoni though.  Let’s not get crazy!

  1. Chantelle, your table turned out awesome, what a beautiful shine it has too!  What  a great idea waxing those areas you want to control first before you paint the 2nd color.  I’ll have to give that a try; thanx for the inspiration ~ Shelly

  11. What a great little makeover! I love the tip about waxing too. I just got my order of CeCe paint & am dying to try it out. I’ve got a dining set, valet chair, & rocking chair I need to finish before I can start something new though. Sad face. It’s so great when others take the time to share the little tips & tricks they learn along the way. Thanks again & cheers to trying a new color.
